Our Associates have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the world with programs like our Mars Volunteer Program and Mars Ambassador Program. This is a great example of how we put The Five Principles in action today to help create the world we want tomorrow.

Making a Difference

Mars Volunteer Program
As a Mars Associate, you can make a positive impact on the world through the Mars Volunteer Program (MVP).
The MVP is a powerful example of how we put The Five Principles into action in the communities that are at the heart of our business, our sourcing and operating communities. For the last 5 years, our Associates across segments have been living the principle of 'Mutuality' with a strong desire to give something back to the community.
Mars Pet Nutrition associates have adopted a school near the factory in Telangana's Wargal village. The school is home to 600 students from the village around where the literacy rate was less than 60 percent. Inadequate infrastructure including access to clean drinking water and toilets meant a high drop-out rate. Mars associates put a plan to ensure not just restoration of infrastructure but also vocational training courses for girl students, personality development and career counselling sessions. Enrolment in the school shot up and the success rate of students passing has increased to almost 85 percent from 50 percent.
Associates from Mars-Wrigley Confectionary similarly work with the students of Deepalaya Children's home and have made meaningful connections in their lives. Our associates have also bee working with Pratham - one of the largest NGO's to volunteer at Pratham-run schools.

Mars Ambassador Program
The Mars Ambassador Program (MAP) is an opportunity for eligible Associates to develop their skills and capabilities while building great partnerships worldwide.
MAP offers Associates a chance to use their expertise to help organisations and communities across our value chain. From creating a better world for pets in Puerto Rico and improving the sustainability of tea factories in Kenya to optimising the value chain of meal supplies from a centralised kitchen in India - our Associates have been involved in projects all over the world.
Participating in MAP is a life-changing experience that not only connects Associates with communities but also empowers them to learn about the issues we face as a business as they develop leadership competencies in real-life situations.

Shubh Mint
Mint is a key ingredient for Mars - It is used in 65% of our gum and mint formulas. India produces about 80% of the world's mint supply, which is grown by as many as 1 million smallholder farmers. Many of these farmers are subsistence farmers and mint provides a critical soruce of income. In line with Mars's Sustainable In A Generation Plan and through the Shubh Mint Program in India - a part of a global program called Advance Mint - a Mars Wrigley initiative, our goal for 22,000 farmers in Barabanki and Lucknow in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is to adopt good agricultural practices, double their income from mint and reduce water use by 30%. We're doing this by training farmers on sustainable agricultural practices, access to good quality planting material, supply traceability, creation of Farmer Producer Organisation to drive value and advancing youth and women welfare through targetted empowerment programmes.
